Hello friend, and welcome to the first issue of The Inner Guide.
If you’ve been here since the early Mind Refuge days — thank you for staying with me. If you're new, I’m so glad you're here! Either way, this space is entering a new chapter.
Why the Change?
Mind Refuge was born during a time when I wanted to create a shelter - a safe space for those moments when our minds feel stormy and the outside world is loud.
Over the past two years, much has changed. As I've grown and gathered new tools and experiences, a new vision emerged - one that focuses not just on refuge, but on guidance through life's transitions.
These in-between moments - uncertain, uncomfortable, yet rich with potential - are often where true growth occurs. When we slow down and listen, we can uncover profound wisdom within ourselves.
That's why I've renamed this space The Inner Guide. It's a place to help you reconnect with your inner compass, especially during times of change when the path ahead isn't clear.
What to Expect
Each month, I’ll share:
a personal story from my own life or coaching work
a gentle insight grounded in research or therapeutic practice
a practical tool or exercise you can use on your own
My hope is that this becomes a space you look forward to - a quiet companion as you navigate your own becoming.
A Story: Do you listen?
“I don't know where my place is — it's so frustrating,” a close friend shared recently.
The desperation in her voice felt familiar. I’ve been in that place many times.
It almost feels surreal that I’m no longer the one saying those words.
One year ago, I moved to Barcelona. On the outside, it may have looked like a random decision.
But on the inside, it felt deeply aligned.
I still remember the moment I knew: I was breathing in the warm autumn air, watching the sunset light up the city, surrounded by relaxed, smiling people.
My body spoke. There was calm in my mind, warmth in my chest, butterflies in my stomach.
I felt light. Joyful. Clear.
That was my inner guide speaking.
When I had to make that practical steps to make it happen, the inner guide was there to remind me about my deep knowing.
A Thought: What If You Already Know?
We often believe that clarity must come from external sources - a self-help book, a mentor, a perfectly timed sign.
But what if you already have access to what you need?
In my coaching work, I frequently see people searching for answers they already carry inside them. They've just forgotten how to listen, getting lost in comparison, doubt, or the pressure to figure everything out.
Your inner guide isn't loud. It doesn't shout. But it's always there - beneath the noise. And it becomes clearer when you create space for it.
Science supports this inner wisdom. Your gut and brain are constantly communicating through what’s known as the gut-brain axis. The gut - often called our “second brain” — influences emotions and decision-making, which is why we often feel a truth in our body before we can explain it with words.
A Practice: Tune In
To support you in reconnecting with your inner guide, I’ve created a short visualization + journaling exercise you can do on your own.
✨ You’ll find it attached as a downloadable worksheet.
Give yourself a few quiet moments to explore - and see what comes through.
Thank you for beginning again with me.
Here’s to transitions, to clarity in the unknown, and to listening to our inner guides.
With warmth,
I’ve learned that the stomach (= guts) has as many neurones as the brain of a cat. Not so dumb after all ;)
What a great article, Adela! I often silenced my inner voice but learning to listen to it more and more. I downloaded the exercise and will do it on my upcoming flight. Thank you for sharing it and your story.
